Magaziners of Humenne

Photo Not Available	Israel Lob Magaziner (Lajos Magaziner) The Rabbiság Mint Anyakönyvi Hivatal Homonnan (Rabbi's Registry of Homonna)1 records the birth of a child on March 24, apparently 1884, to Magaziner H and Rosenbluth C. The child's name is hard to read, but appears to be Israel Lob. No other information is provided. It is believed that this child is the same one identified as Magaziner Lajos, son of Magaziner Henrik, in the Halálozási Anyakönyv (Death Registry).2 Magaziner Lajos died of angina on April 18, 1887 at the age of three years, which makes him the right age to be the child born on March 24, 1884, and it is unlikely that any other child of Henry could have been three years old at that time. Lajos is probably the deceased child referenced by Cecelia in the 1900 United States Census.3 It is surprising that Henry and Cecelia had a child named Lajos, because Lajos is a Hungarian name normally corresponding to the English name Louis, and Henry and Cecelia had another son named Louis in the United States. It is possible that the father Magaziner H is someone other than Henry Magaziner, and that the deceased child is not a member of this family tree; however, this seems highly unlikely as the name Magaziner is not common among Hungarian Jews.
